Registration Fees are Finalized

All,
We've finally been able to set tournament fees for the Nationals and LD.  You may pay via PayPal or you can mail a check or you can pay at the tournament.  Paying at the tournament will cost an extra $5; we want to expedite registration so we are encouraging everyone to do it in advance.  For PayPal, simply go to www.PayPal.com and click Send Money, then enter my email.  If you haven't used it before, you'll need to create an account.

The fees are a little higher than we'd hoped for and trust me, Bruce and I have worked hard to keep the fees down.  When all is said and done, I'll be providing the Board with our expenses, just to keep things transparent and also so that anyone else that might host one of these in the future will have some idea.

Entry fees for the entire tournament, including LD = $85 (includes one short sleeve shirt and catered dinner)
Entry fees for Individuals, excluding LD = $75 (includes one short sleeve shirt and catered dinner)
LD only = $20 (includes one short sleeve shirt)
Catered TexMex at Banquet = $10
Extra shirts, picked up at tournament = $15, short sleeve small - XL; $17 XXL or long sleeve
Extra shirts, shipped to your address = $20, short sleeve small - XL; $22 XXL or long sleeve

If you pay via PayPal, send to my email, duckhead@airmail.net  Please put in the memo box what event or items you're paying for.

All,

T-shirt news

All,
Some exciting news to share regarding the t-shirts for the Nationals.  This year, you can customize your shirt in one of two ways.  There are eight colors of shirt you can chose from and, for a few dollars more, you can have a long sleeved t-shirt if you want.  Besides the colors, white is also available.  The art is the same.  The long sleeved t-shirts are only available in white, ash, gold and orange.  I’ll have the exact cost for the long sleeved tomorrow.  There is no extra charge for choosing your color and if you want more than one shirt, you can get more than one color.  Everyone gets one shirt with their registration.  Extra short sleeved t-shirts, if picked up on site, are $15.  $20 if shipped.  Bruce has added a drop down menu on the registration page for color selection (See "Note from Bruce" below). Also, XXL and above are slightly more expensive and I’ll have that cost tomorrow as well.  Available sizes are small to XXXL.  We need you to make your selections by Sunday night.  You do not have to attend the Nationals to get a shirt.  If you want one, let us know in advance because, although we’ll have a few extras, when they’re gone... they’re gone.

Also attached is the art for the shirt.  These are low resolution images but should give you a good idea.  I’ve included three variations of shirt colors.  Ace Armstrong and I collaborated on the design; I think you’ll like it.

Can you guess who the silhouetted boom thrower is?  Ace will reveal this in his own sweet time!

Aesthetic Competition awards

Aesthetic Awards near completion.  Folks, if these don't get you to enter booms in the Aesthetic Competition, I don't know what will. At the suggestion of Don Monroe, I contacted David Fantone of Bear Boomerangs in Oregon to see if he'd be interested in crafting some type of awards for the three categories, Decoration, Design and Craftsmanship. He is providing, at no charge, three wonderful trophies. Aluminum, polycarb and strip lam booms, each on an engraved pedastal and a true working boomerang! The attached photo doesn't show the engraved plaques yet but the booms are truly beautiful. So git ta whittlin' an' enter a boom! As soon as the awards are finished, I'll post another photo.

Please Register ASAP

We need to get a fairly accurate estimate of how many competitors we're going to have for the 2008 Nationals tournament. We expect the entry fee to be somewhere around $65. but we won't be able to determine this for certain until we have a good head count. We are hoping the fee will be less -- the more people that enter, the less the fee will be. Also, if you wait until the the day of the tournament, the fee will be $5 more.

The primary registration fee will include a t-shirt and a catered TexMex meal at the hotel Saturday night and participation in all events, including LD. To enter only LD, the fee will be $20, including tee-shirt. To enter only LD, but also attend the banquet Saturday night will be $30.  Friends, family or others may also attend the banquet for $10 (cash bar available).

Note that there is no entry fee for the craftsmanship competitions.

Here's what we need you to do: Register on this site by clicking "Create new account" on the left. There are boxes to check based on what you plan to enter (Individuals, LD, Craftsmanship). If you have already registered on the site, please sign back in and do the following:

  1. Click "My account"
  2. Click "Edit"
  3. Click "Tournament"
  4. Fill out the fields and check the appropriate boxes.

Click here for a screenshot of what the signup page looks like.

Please do this as soon as possible so we can finalize the entry fee. When the fee is finalized, we'll send out instructions on how to pay the fee.

You can also sign up for extra tee-shirts on the registration page. Small through XL will be $10. XXL will be $12. These prices are for registered competitors. Shirts will also be available at the tournament for $15 ($17 XXL), or for $20 ($22 XXL) shipped.

Important Hotel Room Reminder!

If you're coming to the Nationals and want a room at the Marriott (official hotel), book soon as the preferred rate goes away on Sept. 19th! If you wait until after that date, the rates go up by as much as $30 per night per room. Also, the hotel tells me that there is a big high school band event in the area and they'll likely book whatever rooms we don't use so after the 19th they may not have any rooms available.

Boomerang Demo at the State Fair of Texas

Marine Corps Square at the Texas State Fairgrounds

David Hirsch has arranged for us to be able to do a boomerang demo at the State Fair of Texas. On Wednesday at noon, we'll be at the "Marine Corps Square", a medium-sized field with bleachers. (Click the image on the left for a larger view.) The exact format of this event isn't yet determined, but we've got lots of good ideas being bandied about on the USBA Yahoo group. So far, we've got the Bower brothers, Pat, Stu, David and myself to take part. Ace is strongly hinting that he'd like to miss school to be a part of it too. Anybody else who is interested should show up before noon on Wednesday, October 15th. If you want free tickets to the fair, email David ASAP. He'll also have just a couple of parking passes, so we'll want to try to car-pool.

See the far left edge of this fairgrounds map for the location of the Marine Corps Square. Below is a satellite view of the field. You can see that bleachers surround about half of the field. (You may need to click "Read more" to see it if you're on the main page.)
